Priory Elm Park, in Essex, is a specialist neurobehavioural rehabilitation service for assessing, treating and discharging people with complex neurological needs following an acquired brain injury (ABI), or traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Adapting during the coronavirus outbreak

Maria Goodman, Hospital Director of Priory Elm Park, discusses how her team has adapted to support their current patients and continue to assess and admit patients during this challenging time

Our approach

After a brain injury, people may experience cognitive, behavioural and emotional changes. We ensure that patient treatment plans address these needs to support them to access other areas of rehabilitation.

The main emphasis of the treatment and rehabilitation offered at Elm Park is to enable patients to have increased opportunities for choice, autonomy, and empowerment over their own life and to obtain the optimum level of independence that their potential allows.

Individualised and goal-orientated treatment plans are devised with patients, within a discharge pathway of agreed duration, specifically tailored to meet their needs. This is provided within a homely environment with the purpose of supporting patients to achieve a valued social role both within the community and whilst within groups of peers and family members.

The services are provided at Elm Park and two community houses - Elm House and Elm Cottage.

We have a total of 24 beds split across the three units:

  • Elm Park - 17-bedded rehabilitation brain injury service for males
  • Elm House - 4-bedded community rehabilitation brain injury service for males and females
  • Elm Cottage - 3-bedded community rehabilitation brain injury service for males and females

Focus on Safety

Our absolute priority is to make sure we operate safe and effective services 24/7 and that all staff understand what is required of them to make that happen.
