MAJOR OBJECTIVES:

A Senior Carer will take a leading role in ensuring that the personal needs of the residents are met in a way that respects their dignity and promotes independence.

They will actively encourage junior staff to provide the best possible care environment by promoting a friendly, homely atmosphere and generally ensure the smooth day to day running of the home.

Senior Carers will remain vigilant concerning the quality of activity in the Home and assist the Home Manager to improve the service to the residents.

Senior Carers are responsible for carrying out any special instructions in the communication book that have been entered by the night Senior Carer or the Home’s Manager.

Ensure that all regulations are followed and implemented certifying that the Home is run to a high standard and that it conforms, at all times, to CQC directives.


PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

·      The post holder will work closely with and to the criteria laid down by the Home Manager/Deputy Manager.

·      To be a leader/role model in the provision of excellent standards of care for the residents.


·      Assist residents who need help with dressing, undressing, bathing and toileting.


·      Carry out regular discreet checks on all residents at intervals specified by the Home’s Manager.


·      Carry out regular fire prevention and security checks of the premises at intervals specified by the Home’s Manager.


·      Ensure any information that should be given to the night staff is recorded in the communication book and given to the night senior carer on duty.


·      Help residents with mobility problems and other physical disabilities including incontinence, particularly where the use of aids and appliances are concerned.


·      Care for the residents who are temporarily sick and need minor dressings and bed nursing


·      Help give palliative care.


·      Assist in the promotion of mental and physical activities of residents by talking, encouraging hobbies and any other recreational activities.


·      Make and change beds, tidy rooms, do light cleaning and empty commodes


·      Undertake various domestic duties during the day such as laundry, ironing table laying and cleaning specified by the Home Manager.


·      Set tables and trays, serve meals, feed residents who need help, prepare light snacks, wash up, tidy and clear the dining room.


·      Answer emergency alarms, the door, and the telephone promptly and greet all visitors politely and respectfully.


·      Take an active part in resident’s review meetings, staff meetings and the training of junior staff.


·      Read and write reports. Ensure all records are kept up to date and in the correct place.


·      The Senior Carer is responsible for keeping accurate records of medication requested and received from the Doctor or Pharmacy.


·      The Senior Carer is responsible for keeping accurate records of medication administered to the residents. Any medication not taken by the residents must be returned to the cabinet, recorded and reported to the Home Manager.


·      The Senior Carer must ensure that the right medication is given to the right resident at the right time.


·      Promote and support equality for each individual always show respect for the people in your care, their families and other staff members.


·      Information about people in your care is very private. Confidential information includes medical treatment, (diagnosis, prognosis and treatment and everything related to personal, social and financial matters. You have both a legal and moral responsibility to keep the information confidential.


·      The senior carer is responsible for staff on the same shift to organize, guide, assist, and direct to complete the tasks before the next shift comes on. All staff must be told how to use the equipment and not to abuse any of the equipment. Any abuse must be recorded in the communication book. If in doubt ask the Home’s Manager.


·      The Senior Carer must guide and direct other staff members under to ensure that there is a minimum amount of wastage of food, cleaning products and the like, throughout the Home.


·      To actively engage in carrying out activities as directed by the Activities Manager/Coordinator and ensuring that all staff members do so as well.


·      Ensure to tell other staff where you are at all times.


Full UK driving licence and be 15 miles from Hallaton


Must be male due to quota

Essential skills/Experience Full UK driving licence due to rural location NVQ Level2 or 3 Health & Social Care
