We are a small home from home nursery established for 17 years and we take pride in providing high-quality provision for children from the age of 3 months to 5 years.


We are looking for a qualified early years practitioner who is highly self-motivated and can create a culture of curiosity, awe and wonder within our setting for our well established Preschool room and work alongside the room leader and staff.

Little Nightingales Day Nursery is found in the village of London Colney, Hertfordshire with excellent transport links with the M25 less than a mile away.


Our children have access to two outdoor play areas and have three large setting rooms for employees to work and experience different age ranges making this a beautiful place to learn and work in.


This is a full-time, permanent role as a Early Years Practitioner offering a competitive salary. Little Nightingales is a small, independent, family-run day nursery.


As an Early Years Practitioner, you need to be providing an emotionally secure, warm, stimulating and safe environment, appropriate to the needs of individual children. There must be excellent knowledge of the Early Years foundation stage and you need to implement these in your daily work.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Ensuring routines are being followed and run smoothly
  2. Ensuring that all policies and procedures are being followed
  3. Being an excellent role model to the other staff in your room
  4. Understanding all policies and procedures of the nursery and being able to answer relevant questions from parents/carers/outside agencies (i.e OFSTED)
  5. Welcoming all children and parents to the nursery and helping them settle. (irrespective of their rooms)
  6. To provide a wide and varied range of activities for the children individually and as a group appropriate to their needs and developmental stage.
  7. Laying out and setting up the nursery and storing away equipment appropriately.
  8. Explaining activities to children and providing help if necessary.
  9. To encourage the children with their language development and positive verbal response.
  10. To organise creative activities and displays for the walls and help display the children’s work.
  11. Maintain a clean and tidy nursery and garden area and ensure books, toys and equipment are clean and in good order.
  12. Provide a high standard of health and hygiene
  13. Change nappies and encourage children with toilet training and personal hygiene
  14. Help children at mealtimes and then tidy and clear away afterwards- keep the children clean
  15. Act as a key person for a group of children as allocated by the management team, ensuring attachment theories are respected.
  16. Have a sound knowledge of all the children in the setting and excellent knowledge of your key children.
  17. Filling in all the appropriate record-keeping for your key child and ensure they are continually up to date
  18. Attend and participate in staff meetings
  19. To ensure adherence to the nursery’s child care procedures and policies within all aspects of the work in the nursery
  20. Inform the management team of any concerns regarding the children, parents or other staff



Essential skills/Experience Required from you: Previous experience in working within childcare A Childcare and Education qualification equivalent to NVQ level 2 or level 3 Excellent knowledge of the EYFS A current First Aid qualification (desired) Valid DBS A dynamic and passion for early years and sound knowledge of childcare
